Job Market Overview
In our previous report, we shared that August saw a long-awaited increase in the number of job openings.
🔊 In the last 4 weeks, there has been a very small change in the number of job openings. On the other hand, the last week of August and the first week of September saw the highest increase. 📈
🔊The number of job applications saw a notable increase since mid-August. Job-seekers are finally on track. 😉
Let’s dive into market competitiveness.
Compared to August, market competitiveness has become more challenging in the Estonian job market. This could be related to the increasing number of job applications in September (one of the favourite months for job seekers). 🤔
While it is at the ‘OK level’ for Data & Analytics professionals to find a job in Estonia, it is sadly difficult for Design experts. Fingers crossed, design people: good times will come! ✌️
So how is the situation with offered and expected salaries in relation to this?
Both the offered and expected salaries have seen a slight increase by mid-September.
Despite the small change, there is still a gap between the two numbers. Whereas employers are ready to pay a bit more to hire the best talent, job seekers seem to be reevaluating their expected salaries to some extent. 💰
Top 6 Specialties with the Most Openings
🏹 The job hunting season has begun. So which industries are welcoming the most new talent?
Looking at the chart, it is clear why it is at the ‘OK level’ for software engineers to find a job in Estonia seeing while it is challenging in general. The field ranks first in the list, far ahead of the IT & Sysadmin jobs, which is on the second place. 🥇
Customer Support and Sales & Business Development rank in third and fourth places respectively, followed by (Tech) Project Management. There are only slight differences between them.
Surprisingly, the last place belongs to Data & Analytics as it used to be one of the most popular industries in the last 6 months. 😎
It seems the Estonian job market needs engineers and IT people the most nowadays. If you are looking for an opportunity in one of these sectors, chances are your dream job is waiting for you. 🤝
Salaries Offered by Employers: September vs January 2020
A lot has changed since January. Where to begin? The pandemic conquered the whole world, it has affected every single economy on Earth and the way we live and work have completely changed. 😷
Now, let’s check how the offered salaries have changed in the last 9 months. 🕵
👉The good news is each of the top 6 specialties have seen an increase in the offered salaries.
👉 (Tech) Project Management saw the highest increase. 📈
👉 Data & Analytics saw the lowest increase. This also justifies the point we shared in the previous section: the number of job openings in this sector is lower than in others. It seems the demand for the Data & Analytics experts has changed a bit during the pandemic. 💡
👉 Despite the turmoil the pandemic created, companies are willing to pay more in order to hire the best talent. 💪

Last month saw a slight decrease in the number ofjob openings. Good news is, there has been an increase by 44% in the first week of August compared to that of July. 📈
Has it been the same for the job applications? Apparently, no. There has been a slight decrease in the number of job applications in the past month. 📉
We’ll see if job seekers will catch up with the new openings in August and September, in which job applications generally tend to increase.
What about market competitiveness in the Finnish job market? How have industries been affected?
As of August, it is a bit challenging for job seekers to find a job in Finland. Is it the same for every industry?
Unlike in Estonia, software engineers will find it easier to find a job in Finland nowadays. On the other hand, it will be unfortunately more difficult for Design and especially Marketing & PR & Media professionals. 😟

When we look at the top specialties with the most applications in the Finnish job market, we see a similar pattern to that in Estonia and Lithuania.
🔊 While Software Engineering ranks in first place for all countries, Sales & Business Development and (Tech) Project Management make up the 2nd and 3rd places in Finland.
The good news is, although Software Engineering was the busiest industry when it comes to the intensity of applications, it’s still at the ‘OK level’ to find a job in the Finnish job market. 👯
We see Marketing & PR & Media, Customer Support, and Finance in the rest of the list.
This could be related to the lower number of job openings in these sectors, as they might be affected more than others in the Finnish job market. 😷

On the other hand, the number of job applications seems to have slightly decreased as well. Let’s see what the rest of August will bring.
The global market has been competitive for job seekers in general. The needle is pointing to the yellow ‘challenging’ level for now. 🤔
While it’s even more difficult for Sales and Business Development professionals, Data & Analytics experts will find it much easier compared to others. 🍀
What about the average and expected salaries?
The global trends are no different to the situation in Finland, Estonia, and Lithuania. It seems the average offered salaries exceed the expectations of job seekers.
Although both have decreased a bit lately, there is still a visible gap between them. 👀

The number of job applications seem to have doubled up! Lately, the data for openings and applications are going hand in hand in Estonia.
So, how has market competitiveness changed when compared to July? In our previous article, we had shared that the Estonian job market was challenging. Well, it seems August doesn’t have anything different to bring for now.
While Data & Analytics professionals will find it easier to find a role, software engineers may be surprised by the fact that it has become a tad difficult even for them to find a job nowadays. 🤷
Why is it like that? It may be that the slow economic recovery combined with the summer sun is making it a bit challenging for job seekers to find their dream job. 🌞

Recently, there has been a growing disparity between the average offered and expected salaries in the Estonian job market. 🤔

Software Engineering, Sales & Business Development, and Marketing & PR & Media make up the top 3 of the top specialties with the most applications list.
Remember from the previous section that it’s been challenging for software engineers to find a job lately? The more applications Software Engineering attracts, the more challenging it becomes for job seekers to find ‘the’ job.
It’s a no brainer that Estonia attracts lots of bright software engineers, as the country is a world leader for IT skills.
So, which industry couldn’t make it to the list this time? The answer is (Tech) Project Management which ranked in 7th place.
With that being said, we should also add that there was a slight difference between the number of applications for IT & Sysadmin and (Tech) Project Management.

Job Market Overview
After a 3-month period of ups and downs, August started with some good news from the Lithuanian job market.
As of today, the number of job openings has increased by 63% compared to July 1. 📈
What about the number of job applications? Have job seekers followed the same trend as companies?
Well, not really. There has been a drop in the number of applications lately. The reasons for that might be:
👉 The openings may not match with the expectations and needs of active job seekers.
👉 Job seekers may be enjoying a much-needed rest this summer.
Let’s jump into the market competitiveness stats.
More job openings combined with lower applications result in a less challenging market competitiveness level in the Lithuanian job market. Nowadays, it’s at the “OK level” to find a job in Lithuania.
If you’re a software engineer, it’ll be even easier for you. 😉
And what about average salaries?
There has been a slight decrease both in the average expected and offered salaries. Even though they got a bit closer this week, apparently job seekers and companies are not quite on the same page — the offered salaries are still higher than the expected salaries.

Similar to Estonia and Finland, Software Engineering has been the most popular industry in the Lithuanian job market in July.
In the chart above we can see that Marketing & PR & Media has found a place in the top 3, just like in Estonia.
It seems the pandemic has affected Customer Service a lot, as nowadays the number of applications in this area has decreased a bit.
So, who couldn’t make it to the top 6 list? It’s the Design industry. 🤷 It did make 6th place in the Finnish job market report which you can read here.
This might be related to the low number of openings as well as design professionals being happy with their current jobs. It would be worth checking how this progresses in the next report. 😉

In this report, we’ll find out which Lithuanian companies have been doing a good job when it comes to replying to applicants.
🥁 The champion is Vertex, a creative product development company. On behalf of all job seekers; thank you Vertex, for being so kind and replying to your applicants. 🌟
2nd place goes to Indigroup, an expert consulting company, and 3rd place to KEVIN, an innovative fintech company. 💪
When we have a look at the rest of the list, we can see that the Finance and Software Development industriesare leading the way.
