So, if you are planning to visit Finland, be aware that the borders will soon open to arrivals from more countries and you could be subject to the covid test if arriving from a country with more than 25 coronavirus infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
Wondering how the Finnish job market has been doing? Let’s dive into the ocean of stats! 🏊
Job Market Overview
Our previous report showed that August saw a huge increase of 44% in the number of job openings. What about September? What will the stats tell us this month?
👉 This month, the number of job openings saw a slight decrease compared to that of mid-August.
👉 When we look at the number of job applications, we can see that there has been a visible increase. The second week of September saw the highest increase by 25%.
What about market competitiveness? 🔎
In September, market competitiveness remains the same as in August. It is still challenging to find a job in Finland. But the good news is the chart is leaning towards the ‘OK level’.
Is it the same for every specialty? The answer is simply ‘no’.
While it is at the ‘OK level’ for Software Engineering professionals to find a job in Finland, (Tech) Project Management experts may find it difficult to get their dream position nowadays.
On the other hand, it has never been so easy for the IT & Sysadmin professionals to land a job in the Finnish job market. 😲🙌
As of today, the offered and expected salaries are going in different directions. Whereas there has been a 6.1% increase in the offered salaries, the expected salaries saw a 0.5% decrease.
The recent changes in salaries have closed the gap a bit. 💰 But as we can see from the chart, employers and job seekers still need some time to be on the same page.

Software Engineering has by far the most number of job openings. 🤩
The list continues with Sales & Business Development, (Tech) Project Management, and Data Analytics companies.
Sadly, Marketing & PR & Media professionals may see a lack of opportunities this month. Who knows what the rest of September will bring? 🙏
Salaries Offered by Employers: September vs January 2020
Regardless of the industry, COVID-19 shook the economy worldwide and Europe is still struggling with the pandemic. 😔
How has the situation been affecting the offered salaries since January?

👉 Data & Analytics salaries saw the highest increase by 10%. 💶
👉The specialties in which the offered salaries have decreased are IT & Sysadmin, (Tech) Project Management, and Marketing & PR & Media.

Let’s get started with what has happened in the Finnish job market in July and in the first week of August.
In this report, the theme is ‘the most’. 😊 We will discuss the top 6 industries with the most applications and the companies with the most replies to applicants and openings in July.
Sounds good? Let’s start then! 🚀
Job Market Overview
Last month saw a slight decrease in the number ofjob openings. Good news is, there has been an increase by 44% in the first week of August compared to that of July. 📈
Has it been the same for the job applications? Apparently, no. There has been a slight decrease in the number of job applications in the past month. 📉
We’ll see if job seekers will catch up with the new openings in August and September, in which job applications generally tend to increase.
What about market competitiveness in the Finnish job market? How have industries been affected?
As of August, it is a bit challenging for job seekers to find a job in Finland. Is it the same for every industry?
Unlike in Estonia, software engineers will find it easier to find a job in Finland nowadays. On the other hand, it will be unfortunately more difficult for Design and especially Marketing & PR & Media professionals. 😟
Wondering about the expected and offered average salaries in the Finnish job market?
The pandemic has affected the way we live, work and look for a job. 😵 Just like in Estonia, there has been a growing difference between the expected and offered salaries in Finland.
The gap started to grow in the beginning of June and then diminished a bit. But the disparity is clear enough to draw attention to the difference between the expectations of job seekers and those of companies. 🤔
🔊Attention active job seekers! Please consider increasing your salary expectations a bit and keep believing in yourself. 😊
Top 6 specialties with the most applications in July
When we look at the top specialties with the most applications in the Finnish job market, we see a similar pattern to that in Estonia and Lithuania.
🔊 While Software Engineering ranks in first place for all countries, Sales & Business Development and (Tech) Project Management make up the 2nd and 3rd places in Finland.
The good news is, although Software Engineering was the busiest industry when it comes to the intensity of applications, it’s still at the ‘OK level’ to find a job in the Finnish job market. 👯
We see Marketing & PR & Media, Customer Support, and Finance in the rest of the list.
This could be related to the lower number of job openings in these sectors, as they might be affected more than others in the Finnish job market. 😷
Top 10 companies with the most replies to applicants in July
How many times have you applied for a job and waited for a reply for weeks or maybe months without ever getting a response? 😵
Well, there are still some companies out there who reply to each job candidate whether the feedback is positive or negative . 👏
Let’s get started with the top 10 Finnish companies with the most replies to applicants in July.
Congrats to Appgyver, a mobile software development company! The company ranks in 1st place. 👏
The 2nd company with the best communication skills is G-Works, an advertising agency, followed by Aiven.io, a data management company in the database as a service (DBaaS) field that uses opensource technology to create data-intensive applications and Feedbackly, anAI-powered all-in-one feedback tool. 💪
🥁 The list tells us that Software Development, Marketing and Data Management companies win the ‘companies with the best recruitment attitude’ competition!
Let’s see if these stats match with those of the companies with the most job openings.
Companies with the most openings in July
Are you actively looking for a job? Or want to make a pivot in your career? If yes, this section is for you. 🌟
Here are the top 6 companies with the highest number of openings in the Finnish job market in July. 👇
👉 This list has slight similarities with the previous section in which we discussed the Finnish companies with the most replies to applicants.
👉 We see that Arena Persona, a live campaign agency that combines design, technology and customer dialogue has the highest number of job openings. The company also made it to the list of the kindest companies. 👏
👉Nitor, a digital engineering company and Sector Alarm Oy, a home alarm company follow hot on Arena Persona’s heels.
👉 Software and Technology win over the other industries when it comes to the number of job openings. If your expertise is in these sectors, well, you’re one of the lucky ones! 🍀

Finland’s opening up and navigating its way in the new normal. So, what’s the current situation in the job market in Finland?
In our latest report, we mentioned that Finland saw a drop in the number of job applications. In addition to this, finding a job became more challenging.
Let’s keep our hopes high this month, and see what the Finnish job market is up to nowadays! 🕵
Job Market Overview: June vs July
By the first week of July, there has been a slight increase of 1% in the number of active job seekers in Finland.
Coronavirus times combined with summer mode might stop this number from increasing. 🌞 We’ll see how the situation changes by the end of the month.
What about market competitiveness?
According to our market competitiveness indicator, the ease of finding a job in Finland has remained quite stable over the last few months. We shared these stats in our recovery report.
Market competitiveness has increased very slightly since mid-June. This means that job seekers will find it a bit challenging to find a job in Finland.
The good news is that it’s leaning towards the “OK-level”. 🙏
We’ll talk about the competition among the top 6 industries in the coming sections. Stay tuned for even more data! 🤓
Salaries in Top 6 Specialties
Last month, all the industries saw an increase in the offered salaries except for Finance in Finland. Let’s see how things go in July.
When looking at the average gross salaries in the Finnish job market, we can see that they have increased in all industries except for Tech (Project Management).
✅ Sales & Business Development saw the highest increase with an average of 565EUR since May. If your profession fits this sector, the chances are employers will be very interested in you nowadays. 💪
✅The lowest increase was in Software Engineering. Even though software engineers are normally some of the most sought-after experts with relatively higher salary rates, it seems the employers aren’t in an urgent need of finding software talent nowadays. 🤐
Wondering about the average expected salaries in June?
✅ Surprisingly, the average expected salaries have decreased in all industries except for Software Engineering. At the end of the day, companies are willing to pay higher than job seekers are expecting.
✅ The highest drop was in Finance with an average of 401EUR.
So, what do these numbers mean? Why have most industries seen a fall in the expected salaries when it’s been the other way around for the offered salaries? 🤔
👉 While job seekers are trying to increase their chances of finding a job by lowering their salary expectations, companies are actually fine with paying more to find the best talent.
Competition in Top 6 Specialties
Now, it’s time to compare market competition in the top 6 specialties in June with that of May.
The only two industries in which it’s now easier to find a job are (Tech) Project Management and IT & Sysadmin in Finland. 👍
While Software Engineering has recently seen a sharp fall, the Marketing & PR & Media sector, in which it was already difficult to find a job, has become even more challenging for job seekers.
Finance also faced a drop in the number of opportunities, but falling from the “very easy-level” to “easy-level” doesn’t really sound too bad, does it? 😊
TOP 10 Companies with the Most Applications in June 2020
Some companies have stood out from others, as they were the favourites of job seekers in June 2020. Let’s have a look at these stars. 🌟
Get your resumes ready. 📝 If you’re looking for a job nowadays, Supermetrics may be ‘the’ one for you.
In second place is Appgyver, who was leading the list for the year until two months ago. Congrats, Appgyver!
Going down the list, we see that Oura, a fast-growing consumer company that helps people track and improve their sleep, is in third place.
Oura is followed by NurseBuddy, software that helps manage homecare and Vello Solutions, an appointment scheduling calendar app. Apparently, job seekers are interested in tech-related industries nowadays. 🤓
The rest of the list contains companies operating in Postal Services, Design, Engineering, and Consultancy.

For example, bars, restaurants and museums reopened after two months. People are returning to these simple pleasures, with some measure of social distancing in place.
However, recent headlines have painted a grim outlook for the Finnish economy. Research shows that Finland’s GDP is set to shrink by 8% this year. Unemployed job seeker figures nearly doubled in April.
Now the question is, what is the job market recovery outlook like? We’re glad you asked. 🤓
Based on our data, the recovery looks like a rocky road for the Finnish job market. Here are some of the key takeaways on the recovery outlook in Finnish job market:
Employers are not too eager to hire right now. 📉
Job-seekers are increasingly active. 🏃♀️
Expected and offered salaries are in a bit of a disagreement. 💸
Ready? Let’s dig into the details! 📊
Job market overview: May vs June
First of all, let’s take a look at a few fundamental indicators of the state of the job market.
We see that the number of active job openings is down by about 34% in Finland as compared to a month ago.
This decrease does not paint a very hopeful recovery outlook for the Finnish job market. 😳
However, the number of active job seekers has gone up by 10% in the past month. 📈
What do these numbers mean? It sure looks like a growing number of people are actively looking for employment, while employers are increasingly cautious about hiring at this time.
At the same time, the ease of finding a job in Finland has remained quite stable over the last few months, according to our market competitiveness indicator.
So, while the numbers of job openings and job seekers continue to fluctuate, they balance each other out month over month.
Salaries in TOP 6 specialties
When looking at the salaries in Finland, we see that on average, both the expected and offered gross salaries increased in May. 💰
Let’s now take a closer look at the offered salaries, by specialty.
As you can see, the average offered salaries have slightly increased in all specialties, except for Finance. So, even though the numbers of available job offers have gone down, the companies are willing to pay more for the roles that are available. 😉
Now, what about expected salaries?
In general, the salaries that job-seekers expect have increased even more than the offered salaries in the past month. This is a good indicator of job-seeker confidence. 🏆
However, we see a few specialties where the expectations and offers are out of sync. For example, in May job-seekers in software engineering expected lower salaries than what was actually offered. The difference was a stunning 700EUR. 😯
Job-seekers in sales & business development and (tech) project management are on the opposite end of the spectrum. The salary expectations of sales & business development job-seekers are on average about 1300EUR higher than the offered salaries. For (tech) project management, the expectations are about 800EUR higher.
These salary numbers show a disconnect between what the employers and job-seekers think of the state of the job market. Let’s see if either the job-seekers or employers adjust their outlook in the summer months. ⚖️
Competition in TOP 6 specialties
In the first section of this article, we had a quick look at the job market competitiveness. Now, let’s dig into this topic by specialty and see what has changed in the past month. 👀
In general, we see that different fields have very different market competitiveness levels in Finland.
Job-seekers in Finance should find it very easy to find employment, while those in marketing are facing very high competition.
Those looking for a job in IT & sysadmin and software engineering should find it quite easy to get employed. Sales & business development and (tech) project management are leaning towards a challenging job market. 🙇
If we compare the indicators for April and May, we see that the ease of finding a job has remained on the same level for most specialties. The biggest change has happened in the field of IT & sysadmin, where finding a job became more difficult in May.
TOP 10 Companies with the most applications in May 2020
Now, let’s see which companies managed to attract the most applications in May 2020. 🔍
In first place is Supermetrics, a tool that helps marketers get data. They’re doing something right, as the MeetFrank job seekers really want to work with them. 🚀
While Supermetrics was also featured in our previous top chart of desirable companies to work with, then a newcomer is in second place: Kide Science. They offer online play-based STEAM programs that plant the seeds of scientific thinking in the minds of 3-8 year old children. Yay for science! 🧬
In third place is Appgyver, who was leading the list for the year so far a month ago. They are doing something right, as they continue to attract plenty of talent! 👏
The rest of the 10 companies that managed to attract a significant number of applicants include a good mix of IT and software companies, with a marketing & advertising agency thrown into the mix.

With the latest decisions on loosening of the restrictions, Finland is slowly and cautiously getting back to the ‘normal’ track. We hope that it will be manifested in the Finnish job market as more job openings and higher salaries in the upcoming weeks. 🎆
In the past 2 weeks, there was a notable decrease in the number of job openings in Finland.
If you haven’t read last week’s report and want to fill in the blanks before diving into the new stats, have a look at ourprevious report. 🔎
In addition to the weekly stats, you can see the job openings across top specialties globally and in Finland. 🗺
Ready? Let’s dig into the Finnish job market and see if the turbulence is still ongoing! 🎢
Job Market Overview
In last week’s report, we had shared that the number of active job openings is down by 10.5%.
The downward trend continues this week as well. This week saw a 11.2% decrease in the number of job openings. On the other hand, the number of job applications increased by approximately 12%.
In the past week, there has been a small decrease in the number of active job seekers along with a slight increase in the amount of talent. Compared to Estonia and Lithuania, less people have been actively looking for a job in Finland. The market competitiveness remained at a similar level though with a slight drop from 3.9 to 3.5. The good news is, finding a job in Finland is still at the ‘OK’ level. ✅
If your background is Finance, Finland is ‘the’ place for you! According to our data, it is easy to find a job in the Finance sector. 😊
While the offered and expected salaries have been going in opposite directions, the disparity has started to diminish. Since April, job seekers and employees have been getting ready to meet halfway. 💸
Weekly special chart: Expected vs offered salaries across top specialties
Wondering how the expected and offered salaries differ across specialties globally and in Finland? Well then, today is your lucky day. 🍀
Looking at the chart below, we see that half of these industries are offering higher salaries than expected in the Finnish job market. Enjoy our main takeaways from the charts!
✅The biggest difference between expected and offered salaries can be seen in the Sales & Business Development industry in the Finnish job market. The numbers tell us that job seekers and companies need to reevaluate what they have in mind. 💭
✅Similar to the situation in Estonia and Lithuania, offered salaries are higher than expected salaries for software engineers.
✅The trend for lower salaries in the Marketing & PR & Media industry continues in Finland as well.
Let’s have a look at the global stats for the same industries:
👉The offered salaries for software engineers and data analysts in Finland beats the global average. Go Finland! And go to Finland, software engineers and data people! 🤓
👉The average offered and expected salaries in Finland are higher than in the global stats.
Weekly highlight: Customer Support
This week, we’ll zoom in on the Customer Support industry in the Finnish job market.
In the past 9 months, the number of job openings has increased slowly, reaching a peak in April. As of May 27, there are more openings compared to previous months. We’ll see if May can break April’s record. 🏅
On the other hand, job seekers have taken a different track over the past 9 months. We saw the number of job applications peak in March whereas we saw the lowest number in February. When we compare the two charts, we see that the number of applications fluctuated more than that of job openings in the last 9 months.
Given the amount of talent, the percentage of active job seekers in Customer Support in Finland is approximately 15%, relatively high compared to the other industries. There are currently 45 companies open to hiring talent in Customer Support, which is lower than in other industries. On the other hand, one of the effects of the coronavirus crisis is that some sectors gained popularity while others have lost out. Thankfully, Customer Support is in the former group. 🙏
The graph below shows that it is easy to find a job in a Customer Support role in Finland and that there’s a strong demand for candidates.
However, this isn’t reflected in the salaries. Offered salaries remain lower than expected salaries in the Finnish job market.
If you’re looking for a Customer Support role in Finland, here are the latest openings which are welcoming new talent:
The most in demand skills in the Finnish job market are similar to those of Estonia. English and customer service & support top the list of must-have skills for the candidates going for Customer Support roles.
Now that we have relatively more time in these quarantine days, it may be the perfect time to build these skills. 💡
This article is based on data from MeetFrank Job Market Insights. For additional and per-track reports, visit this page.
Similarly to other countries in the region, Finland has begun a gradual reopening of the country. This includes reopening borders with neighbouring countries for seasonal laborers and work-related travel. We bet this is a welcome change for many employers in Finland. 🙏
Speaking of change — this week, we noticed some changes on the Finnish job market. More specifically, we see that the number of job openings has fallen noticeably. At the same time, the job seekers seem to have regained some confidence as the average expected salary is up.
The last few weeks have seen quite a few ups and downs in the job market stats, so it’s perhaps no surprise that the turbulence is still present. You can review last week’s Finnish job market review here, if you’d like.
Without further ado, let’s jump into the current week’s Finnish job market report. 🏃
Job Market Overview
In recent weeks, the numbers of job openings in Finland have seen noticeable jumps up and down. This week, yet again, the number of active job openings is down by 10.5%. 📉
We also see that, 8.8% of the talent in Finland are currently active job seekers. This remains quite modest, if compared to some other countries in the region: the percentage is around 10-12% for Estonia and Lithuania, for example.
Despite the weekly turbulence, we can see that it has become slightly easier to find a job in Finland in recent months. This is due to an increase in the number of job offers available, without a significant increase in job seekers.
Not all fields are equal, of course. For example, we see that finding a job in software engineering has become easier in recent weeks. At the same time, job seekers in marketing & PR have tougher competition than before. 🙅♂️
Next, let’s talk about average salaries in the Finnish job market. We can see that the average expected salary has recently increased and is now closer to the average offered salary. ⚖️
The average offered salary remains around the same level as it was in April. As you can see, employers are still offering higher salaries than job seekers expect.
So, if you are a job seeker, don’t be afraid to ask for what you’re worth! But just to be sure, check out the salary data for your field first. 😉
Weekly special chart: Job openings across top specialties
This week’s special chart looks at numbers of job openings across the top 6 specialties, globally and locally in Finland. First, let’s take a look at the global data. 🔍
As you can see, software engineering leads the chart with the most job openings globally. Among the rest of the top specialties, sales & business development job openings are doing good numbers, with IT & sysadmin not too far behind.
Similarly to the global numbers, software engineering also has the most active job openings in Finland, followed by sales & business development. Next in line are customer support and IT & sysadmin, followed by finance and marketing & PR & Media.
From these charts, it is clear that software engineering talent is still in great demand both in Finland and globally. We at MeetFrank are happy help companies with hiring in software engineering roles. You can join the MeetFrank family here. 🕺
Weekly highlight: IT & Sysadmin
🕵️♀️ This week, we are zooming in on the IT & Sysadmin specialty in Finland. Let’s see what the numbers tell us about how the field is faring.
Right off the bat, we can see that there are over 1000 IT & Sysadmin specialists on the MeetFrank platform. About 7.5% of the IT & Sysadmin talent in Finland are currently active job seekers.
Looking at the last 6 months’ data, we can see that historically, finding a job in IT & Sysadmin in Finland has been relatively easy. This has been especially so in the more recent months. 👇
Now, when we look at the numbers of active openings in the specialty, it gets really interesting. We see that since the end of March, the number of active job openings has been going up pretty consistently. 📈
With a relatively low percentage of talent actively looking for new challenges and an increasing number of job openings, the IT & Sysadmin field is in a sweet spot for job-seekers at this time.
The numbers of applications in IT & Sysadmin vary a lot from week to week. It does look like recent weeks have seen an increase in job applications, as compared to March and April.
Salaries in IT & Sysadmin are far above the market averages in Finland. This shows it is a cherished and valued field. 🦾
In the last few months, offered salaries have seen a slight downward trend, while expected salaries have remained relatively stable.
According to this data, we can encourage job seekers to ask for higher compensation. See for yourself, the employers are willing to pay almost 10% more than is expected, on average. 💰
Want to try out asking for a higher compensation? Here are the most recent openings where you could give it a go:
Now, what would it take to get hired in an IT & Sysadmin role? We see that currently, cyber security and familiarity with Linux are the currently most cherished skills in the field in Finland.
🥇We don’t give out awards to the most popular job openings. But if we did, then the winner in IT & Sysadmin in Finland would be Saint-Gobain Finland’s job opening for an IT Specialist for their Nordic & Baltic team. This opening has received the most applications in the last 30 days! You can check it out here.
